Blog #3 The Four I's of Oppression with Luna Malbroux

Welcome to blog 3! This blog was to be written on a video. In the video "The Four I's of Oppression," Luna Malbroux explains four different ways oppression can appear in our daily lives. The first type is Ideological Oppression. This is about the beliefs and ideas that make inequality and discrimination seem okay. For example, some people think men are naturally better at leading than women, which is an unfair stereotype. The second type is Interpersonal Oppression. This happens between people and includes actions and words that hurt others. For instance, when someone assumes someone's abilities based on their race or gender, it’s a microaggression. The third type is Institutional Oppression. This is when unfair treatment is built into the rules and policies of organizations, like schools and workplaces. A common example is when schools in wealthy areas get more funding than those in poor neighborhoods, which isn't fair. The fourth type is Internalized Oppression. This is when people start to believe the negative stereotypes about their own group. It can lead to low self-esteem and self-doubt. Luna Malbroux's video helps us understand these different forms of oppression and encourages us to think about how they affect our lives and others. By knowing about and addressing these four types, we can work towards a fairer and more inclusive society.I learned a lot from watching and listening to the video and I encourage you to watch it as well.

  1. I enjoyed reading this! I enjoyed how you put examples for each of the types of oppressions. The one that stood out the most to be is how wealthy areas get more funding for schools than poor. I think this is a big issue and needs to be addressed. Each student should get an equal education. Good job! - Maci Maiello

Hi Audrey! I was also going to comment on how well you did with including examples for each type of oppression. I agree we could work on a more inclusive and less oppressive society.

  3. Hey Audrey, this world is full of hate, and it's terrible that some individuals believe it's acceptable to step all over other people. People start mistreating others based on their ethnic background, gender, cultural backgrounds, and opinions rather than encouraging one another.
