Hi everyone, Hope you are having a good week.
For today's blog, I am reflecting on the reading titled "The Academic and Social Value of Ethnic Studies A Research Review" and a video titled A Short History of Public Schooling - Excerpt from the film Class Dismissed" Public Schooling has Changed a Lot over the years. It started with teaching kids basic skills like reading and math. Later, schools began to teach students how to be good citizens too. But it hasn't always been smooth sailing. Some schools have better resources than others, leading to differences in education quality.
Christine Sleeter talks about the importance of ethnic studies. This means learning about the histories, cultures, and contributions of different ethnic groups. When students learn about their own backgrounds and those of their peers, they become more interested and excited about school. Ethnic studies help students see themselves in what they learn and encourage understanding and respect for others.
Understanding the history of public schooling and the value of ethnic studies is crucial. It shows us the path we need to take to ensure all students get a fair education. Ethnic studies remind us that everyone's story matters. By learning about diverse histories and cultures, we become more informed and compassionate individuals. This helps us in school and in our daily lives as we meet people from all walks of life.
I can relate to what you said to the video Analisis that we did in class. In Presious Knowledge the ethnic studies class would teach students about different cultures in the world. It's important to teach student about their cultures and other cultures. Each student has their own ethnic backgrounds and it's important to explore them.
ReplyDeleteI love that you included how ethnic studies highlights how everyones stories matter. Students who are more informed about issues from a young age would definitely grow up to be a more understanding person.
ReplyDeleteIt is so important for students to understand the differences there are across cultures because that will create community between students, allowing them to share and accept the reality of the diverse world around them.
ReplyDeleteI agree with all the major points you made! By learning more about different cultures, would help students understand different cultures that much more!
ReplyDeleteI agree with the point you made that every students story matters! This is so important with making a student feel valued and safe within a classroom. Each person has a story and within the education system it should never be diminished!
